Conversations we need about media
2026 Coffee Chat Webinars
Starting in 2026, we’re offering new opportunities to connect and learn by alternating traditional webinars with community conversations.
Community conversations will not be recorded. Traditional webinars will be recorded and made available with presenters’ permission.
Members and webinar registrants get exclusive access for the first 6 months, then all content will become publicly available on our website.

MARCH
Streaming Film: Budgeting and Management Strategies
March 18, 2026, 1pm EST
In this March Coffee Chats webinar, Kate Montgomery will share strategies she's implemented at Tulane University to create a financially sustainable approach to film acquisitions. Sarah Setzer (NC State University) will walk us through key elements of film collection management after the purchase has been made, touching on issues related to license agreements, hosting, and cataloging/discoverability. There will be ample time for Q&A and discussion.
APRIL
Community Conversation
April 16, 2pm CST
Join us for another lively community conversation. This is an opportunity to talk with folks new and experienced in the field, workshop ideas, and ask questions.
Leaning into the idea that we're stronger together and the idea the problems can't be solved when there are empty seats at the table, we welcome everyone who works with film to these conversations. Academic librarians, public librarians, film archivists and preservationists, and film distributors - we'd love to see you.
We're taking lessons learned from our February conversation and soliciting your ideas for discussion topics now. We'll do a flash vote at the top of the hour. Our conversation will start with the topic that received the most votes and then we'll continue moving through the topics as time allows. Submit your discussion topics here: https://forms.gle/WetHWfjZots5tsQYA

“… a really well-organized discussion, and helped confirm what I am already doing -- and gave me tools to talk about why I make some of the decisions I do. Bravo!”
